I love Halloween! I adore making one-of-a-kind costumes for my kids and I am very excited to be along for the Masquerade Ball showing our Totoro costume.
I am a major fan of Hayoa Miyuzaki's films. My love started with My Neighbor Totoro when it came out in the US on Fox in 1993. His movies are so mystical and quirky and I can't help but love all of the characters and stories.
Totoro is the Keeper of the Forest and really just looks like a giant cuddly rabbit of sorts. Since I have a feeling this Halloween is going to be a really cold one, Totoro was the perfect warm costume to make.
I used LouBee Clothings Bimaa Sweater (which is in the middle of getting more sizes added soon!) in a grey knit with white minky for the hood lining. I also used minky for the tummy applique and then made knit arrow appliques to make the Totoro reference. I made little ears, but they are too heavy to keep up! I also modified the pattern a bit to add a drawstring so I could pull his hood closer when we're out Trick-or-treating.
The pants are Titchy Threads Fancy Pants Leggings. I made it in solid grey knit. I did make a little tail to attach to the back with a button, but it honestly looked like a grey poop......Sorry Totoro...
If you couldn't tell, these are two of my absolute favorite designers. ;)
I love when costumes can be worn after Halloween too and this one totally fits that bill!
I'll be sharing the other kids costumes throughout the next couple of weeks. I'm really excited about what they all want to be!
Thank you so much Adrienne for having us along!
