Michael Miller - Sew Fruity Mini Quilt Tutorial

I just love bright colors and Michael Miller's new line, Sew Fruity, is chalk full of them! They make me happy and I couldn't resist making a pineapple mini quilt wall hanging so I get that little extra happiness whenever I see it in my sewing room wall!

To make this mini quilt you will need: 

10 fat quarters of Sew Fruity

3/4 yard background (I used white seeds)

12" by 15" piece of Thermoweb batting

Pineapple Paper Pieced Pattern

The finished quilt is: 10.5" by 13.5"

First grab the Pineapple Paper Pieced Pattern and make the 6" by 12" size.

Cut 1 strip 3" by WOF of background

Cut 1 strip 2" by WOF of background

Cut 1 12" by 15" background

Cut 2 4" squares of background

Make 1" binding out of one of the fat quarters

After you make the Pineapple pattern place one of the 3" strips along one side fabrics right sides together, and sew along it. Press well and trim. Repeat to the other side.
Then take the 2" strip and place one along the top right sides together, sew, press and trim. Repeat with the bottom.

Sandwich batting between your quilt top and quilt back making sure to center the quilt top.
Quilt with a design you like. I chose to outline the pineapple and then do a diagonal stitch across the rest.
Trim your piece.

Take the 4" squares and fold in half diagonally. Press well. Line each one up in the corner on the back of your quilted piece. Baste in place.
This makes it so you can put a dowel in the back to easily hang your mini quilt!

Sew on your bias tape and you are done!

Now you have an adorable pineapple!
