It's "Hand-me-down" week and we love to upcycle here!
I wasn't sure what direction to go for this challenge and had pulled out a lot of our upcycle stuff. I was on pinterest to get some inspiration and came across this picture.
It was serendipity people. I had a giant yellow sweater that was too big for me. A white with black polka dot top sheet and we still have a lot of old worn out khaki's from my husband. I had to send this picture to my friends and tell them how excited I was that I had everything in my stash to replicate the outfit! I've been seeing TONS of mustard, purple and polka dots and I think it's the colors of the season for sure.
(Polka dot IS a color, okay! LOL)

The shirt is the Myra from Violette Field Threads. I cut out the pieces just to make the top, omitting the pants part. I also opted out of the loops in the back, doing an exposed zipper instead. I just adore the pintucks and the front tie.
I slightly, SLIGHTLY cheated with the pants. I actually made them out of my husbands khaki's for my upcycle look when I was competing. But my mother came and took my son for a couple weeks and he didn't get to model them. Since Gavin's grown out of them since then, we shortened them for Aevarie and we dyed them purple. I used the Paperback Writer pants pattern from Ottobre 2010. We had dyed them blue for Gavin. LOL
For the sweater in the picture, I decided to do a cardigan instead. That way Aevarie would get a lot more use out of it. I used the Aster Cardigan Pattern from LBG Studio's. I lengthened both the length of the bodice and the sleeve length and omitted the peter pan collar. I also made the cuffs bigger.
Then we have a matching hair bow. A girl has to have her accessories!
So there's our upcycle look!
Are you sewing along this season?

ReplyDeleteLove it! I especially love the top. I might have to get that now. I love the look of it but kiddo wouldn't be able to get it on/off herself.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about the outfit! The colors, the polka dots and that blouse is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! Yours is even better than the inspiration, it comes with a lovely matching hair bow! I think I need to copy that dot shirt + yellow cardi look :)
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit! So cool that you could upcycle the pants twice!
ReplyDeleteCute outfit, and so grown-up too. Love the little pleats on the top.

What a great outfit! Love the inspiration choice; you hit the mark!
ReplyDeleteI love that color combo! Somehow the polka dot makes the purple and yellow work without it feeling like a sports team. I adore the top and those pants are FLAWLESS. I need to make a lengthened aster too. It's on the top of my list!
ReplyDeleteSew very adorable!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute look Karly! I love the pants (especially since you refashioned them twice!)
ReplyDeleteThis is what I call a perfect refashion! Love that mustard and polka dot IS a color! Who said it's not?
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Karly!
I loved your YouTube video too (the one with your guys on the couch screaming "me! me!")
