Whoo! It's been two months since I touched my sewing machine and a challenge is just the thing to get me out of my sewing funk.
If you haven't been over there yet, I well let you know that they have changed it up a bit, just for the year. Each month a PR&P contestant will be highlighted and they are choosing a free tutorial from their site to use as inspiration (or as is). Then, those of us at home can put our own twist on it and link up!
This month's highlight is Alida from Alida Makes and her Bubble Dress Tutorial.

So what's my take on it? I am a huge anime fan. We watch whatever shows are on Netflix and some that we've actually bought. Some of my favorites are "Sword Art Online", "Bleach", and "Naruto". I adore Hayoa Miyazaki's films (if you haven't seen them, you HAVE to!) I love the music and fashion.
My kids love anime as well and since I have decided that this year is going to be all about dress up, I chose to do a slight nod to Lolita fashion. Very slight.
I made a high-waisted bubble skirt, starting off with Alida's tutorial then winging the rest.
The blouse is the Library Blouse by Tadah Patterns.
The suspenders are a nod to the straps on Alida's dress.
During the photoshoot Aevs kept doing the "Chick Chick" dance. My kids love that song and video too. In case you haven't heard it, you can find it just below the picture. You know you want to watch it!
Don't even try to process what you just saw. Just go with it. ;)

So there's my Cherry Chambray Change-up!

So adorable!!! And what's so funny, I used that exact cherry fabric and chambray for my Skirting the Issue skirt for the Simon ladies! I love that combo so much!
ReplyDeleteAwesome outfit. So so cute. I love that the skirt still gives shape at the hips. She is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love it. The fabrics are awesome together and I love that skirt...SPINOFF TUTORIAL, please!
ReplyDeleteOH! And Chick Chick is played multiple times a day here ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the combo! That top is adorable. We are huge anime fans as well!
ReplyDeleteOh My Word! So adorable! Completely fantastic! I'm running out of excited words so I'm going to go back and look at it all again!
ReplyDeletelove it Karly-especially the yoke on the skirt! Glad you are getting out of your sewing funk:) I've been sewing, but not a bubble-esque anything. My girls won't wear them for some reason, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to put a boy spin on a bubble...
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are back sewing. Beautiful. I love the suspenders - your daughters looks just perfect in the whole outfit!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I thought anime Lolita before I read it. Great modeling job too.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I love the suspenders with it!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Or should I say, kawaii!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the skirt and blouse both. The way you put elastic only in the back of the skirt is very smart and pretty!
ReplyDeleteThis whole outfit is just stunning! I love the skirt but I love the blouse even more :).
ReplyDeleteSo, so cute! and styled so well - I totally see your inspiration of anime and the bubble dress in the outfit.
ReplyDeleteI love love love this look. You did an amazing job!
